KAPA mpiMaintenance, Purchasing & Inventory System

Approvals & Licence

KAPA mpi, both as a software product, as well as a ship specific application, complies with the specifications and requirements set by:

  • The Classification Societies
  • Ship Managing Companies, the everyday smooth running of which relies to a considerable extent on such systems
  • Surveyors, Auditors and other interested parties

KAPA mpi is provided under a flexible and clear licensing policy.

  • Type Approval
  • Case Approval
  • License & Terms

KAPA mpi is a Type Approved software product.

"Type Approval" refers to a procedure for certifying that the design of a product complies with predetermined requirements, set by the "Approving Organization” (Classification Society) and involves system evaluation and testing.

Ship-specific or case Approval involves the examination of a ship-specific data populated application for integrity and functional performance.

Typically, case Approval involves the following:

1. Initial examination of the ship-specific application

This includes mainly checking of:

  • Inventory, i.e. equipment/items/systems included in the maintenance program
  • Maintenance time intervals
  • Maintenance instructions

2. Certification of operation of an Approved PMS (Planned Maintenance Scheme)

Upon successful completion of the initial examination, the Managers/Operators are provided with a valid certificate, granting PMS notation to the vessel, also subject to the implementation survey below.

3. PMS Implementation Survey

An on-board implementation survey of the PMS is carried out as a basis for granting the PMS notation.

4. Requirements for maintaining the PMS notation

PMS machinery records and documentation must be annually audited by Surveyors concurrently with the Classification Annual Survey.

Having gained a long experience with such activities, the KAPA support team can provide clear guidelines to implement efficiently and speed up the procedure.

Ship-specific KAPA database development is provided as a standard service for the preparation of ready to use (turn-key) applications, on-board the vessel and in the office (for details see Ship-Specific Database).

Numerous ship-specific applications in KAPA have been case approved, by practically all the major Classification Societies.

KAPA Shipboard Application is licensed for any number of installations/users.

Head Office installation is provided free of charge for any number of users.

An Import/Export facility, built-into KAPA, allows reliable off-line communication and data exchange/replication between the Head Office and the Ships.
